Heating controls grant in Ireland (2026)
A €700 grant to upgrade the controls on your existing heating system, so heat and hot water run when you need them and not when you don’t.
Quick answer: SEAI pays a fixed €700 towards upgrading the heating controls on your existing heating system, whatever the size of your home. The home must have been built and occupied before 2011. The grant is not available if you are applying for, or have already had, a heat pump grant, and SEAI does not fund new oil or gas boilers.

What does the heating controls grant cover?
Heating controls match your heating and hot water to the way you use your home. A typical upgrade gives separate control of different zones (for example upstairs and downstairs), separate timing for hot water, room thermostats and thermostatic valves on radiators. Your contractor designs the upgrade to meet SEAI’s standard.
The grant helps you get more from the heating you already have. If you want to replace your heating system altogether, look at the heat pump grant instead: you can’t have both.
Who can get it?
- Age of the home: built and occupied before 2011.
- Electricity meter: the home needs an MPRN.
- Who can apply: owner-occupiers, landlords, holiday home owners, companies, owner management companies, registered charities and approved housing bodies.
- Traditional homes: older solid-wall homes can get the heating controls grant.
- Not with a heat pump grant: it is not available if you are applying for, or have previously claimed, a heat pump system grant.

No. SEAI does not give grants for new or replacement fossil fuel boilers, such as oil or gas. The €700 heating controls grant is available whether or not you also install a high-efficiency boiler, and many homeowners combine the two when an old boiler needs replacing.
How to apply for the heating controls grant
Get quotes from SEAI-registered contractors
Get a written contract for the work, price, timing and warranty.
Apply online and accept your grant offer
You need your MPRN, your contractor’s name and ID, your home type and the year it was built. Accept within 30 days and don’t start before you have the offer.
Get the work done
You have 8 months from the grant offer.
Book a post-works BER
A registered BER assessor rates your home after the work. SEAI pays a €50 grant towards it.
Submit the forms and get paid
Send the Declaration of Works and Request for Payment. SEAI usually pays within 4 to 6 weeks.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get the heating controls grant and the heat pump grant?
No. The heating controls grant is not available if you are applying for, or have already received, a heat pump system grant.
Is there an SEAI grant for a new gas or oil boiler?
No. SEAI does not fund new or replacement fossil fuel boilers. You can still get the €700 controls grant with or without a new high-efficiency boiler.
Does my home qualify?
If it was built and occupied before 2011 and has an MPRN, and you are not claiming a heat pump grant, it is likely to qualify. SEAI’s online application checks your eligibility.
