Solar battery grant: what we know so far
There’s no grant for a solar battery today, but a €600 battery grant is expected in Budget 2027. Here is what has been reported, what isn’t confirmed, and what it means if you are getting solar panels.
Quick answer: There is no battery grant today: SEAI’s solar PV grant of up to €1,800 is for the panels. A new €600 grant for a battery installed with solar panels is expected to be announced in Budget 2027 on Tuesday 6 October 2026, on top of the panel grant. It isn’t open yet and its start date isn’t confirmed.

What has been reported
The Irish Times reported on 25 September 2026 that households installing solar panels will be able to get an extra €600 grant for a storage battery, paid on top of the SEAI solar panel grant of up to €1,800. It is expected to be part of Budget 2027 on 6 October. RTÉ reported that the Minister for Energy is also seeking Cabinet approval for a battery storage grant on 29 September.
The Department of Energy estimates that a home with a battery and a 4kWp solar system could save as much as €900 a year. SEAI ran a €600 battery grant before, which ended in February 2022.
What isn’t confirmed yet
The rules
Whether it covers batteries added to existing panels, or only batteries installed with new panels, hasn’t been confirmed.
